Hank's Room Artist for September 2008
Robert Houle
“For me, being an artist is the process of creating
images that embody the wonder I experience as I closely examine the simple and
ordinary. As I strive to be a conduit to the beauty and wonder of spirit, these
things often reveal themselves as quite extraordinary.” Artist Robert Houle
An exhibition entitled
“Visual Revelations” by Robert
Houle will be on display at the Kennebunk Free Library in Hank’s Gallery during
the month of September 2008. This very talented artist will be displaying a
beautiful collection of mixed media paintings and photographs. Robert will be
hosting an open reception on Wednesday, September 17th, from
5:30 -7:30 pm; the public is
invited to attend. (Monday and Tuesday 9:30-8:00, Wednesday 12:30-8:00,
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 9:30-5:00)
Robert’s parents owned and
operated a Bed and Breakfast in Kennebunkport, and as an active participant in
the family run business, he met and gained an interest in people from all walks
of life. Robert’s father was a fine-woodworker who created furniture,
sculpture and hand carved signs. His mother enjoyed intricate hand leather
crafting in the tradition of her Native American ancestors. Robert was
inspired by the abilities and interests of his parents. In his early teens he
developed an interest in photography and drawing. He found that he had a
natural ability to observe and record the details of his surroundings, his
emotions and people.
Robert will be exhibiting a
mixed media collection that incorporates traditional paint and paintbrushes as
well as digital paintbrushes with a digital painter’s palette. He also creates
straight photographic images as well as combining all three media in one image.
Completely self-taught,
Robert has received no formal art training. He received his inspiration from
the beautiful patterns found in our world and in the ever expanding universe,
and from making a connection with people. Robert has previously exhibited at
Mainely Masters Gallery in Portland, the Kennebunk Free Library and at
Abracadabra Fine Arts Gallery.
